This week's Covid-19 statistics in Africa show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous situation where death tolls continued to rise. This week, six countries still recorded an increase in deaths, while 13 others recorded deaths but in smaller numbers.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Botswana, Kenya, Ghana, Mauritius, and Ethiopia. The total deaths in these five countries as of Tuesday, July 5, 2022, amounted to 49, with a weekly growth exceeding 37.5 percent.
Botswana ranks first, with a 210 percent increase in weekly deaths. In this country, Worldometer recorded 31 deaths, an increase compared to the previous week's reported 10 deaths.
Kenya follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in this country grew by 200 percent. Yesterday's daily death toll in this country was recorded at three. Ghana recorded two deaths (up 100%), Mauritius recorded a 100% increase in deaths, and Ethiopia recorded a 37.5% increase.
Looking at the number of death reports, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Africa occurred in South Africa with 81 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 32.5% compared to the previous week. Following that, the highest number of deaths was recorded in Botswana with 31 deaths (up 210%), Morocco with 16 deaths (up 14.29%), Ethiopia with 11 deaths (up 37.5%), and Zimbabwe with nine deaths (down 30.77%).
Total deaths in Africa over the past seven days were recorded at 170. This accounts for 1.85 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 9,167 deaths. The number of deaths in Africa decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 212 deaths.
