The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 6.5 million cases by Tuesday, February 28, 2023. According to GISAID data, Hungary recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with 381 new cases. This represents 0.01 percent of the total global Omicron cases.
Puerto Rico follows with a weekly Omicron case growth of 8.67 percent. Daily Omicron case numbers in Puerto Rico increased by 0.34 percent compared to the previous day, reaching 13,000 cases.
Furthermore, China (PRC) reported 15,774 additional Omicron cases (a 4.08% increase), Brunei Darussalam reported 4,679 additional cases (a four percent increase), and Chile reported 23,013 additional Omicron cases (a 2.66% increase).
In Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases increased by 0.06 percent compared to the previous day, reaching 34,466 cases. Since its initial detection, the number of Omicron cases in Indonesia has steadily increased.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is advised to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
