West Sulawesi had the second-highest prevalence of stunting among toddlers in Indonesia in 2022. According to the Indonesian Ministry of Health's Indonesian Nutritional Status Survey (SSGI), the prevalence of stunting among toddlers in the province was 35% last year.
The prevalence of stunting among toddlers in West Sulawesi increased by 1.2 percentage points from the previous year. In 2021, the prevalence was 33.8%.
Besides ranking second nationally, the stunting rate in West Sulawesi is below the threshold set by the World Health Organization (WHO) at 20%. This indicates that stunting management in West Sulawesi is still poor.
Based on its regions, three regencies have a stunting prevalence above the West Sulawesi average. The remaining three regencies are below the provincial average.
Majene Regency had the highest prevalence of stunting among toddlers in West Sulawesi in 2022, reaching 40.6%, or twice the WHO standard. This figure increased by 4.9 percentage points from 35.7% in 2021.
Polewali Mandar Regency ranked second with the highest prevalence of stunting among toddlers in West Sulawesi at 39.3%, followed by Mamasa Regency with 38.6%.
On the other hand, the lowest prevalence of stunting among toddlers in West Sulawesi was in Pasangkayu Regency at 25.8%.
