The Omicron variant of Covid-19 is spreading in Jakarta. As a result, the positivity rate of the coronavirus in the capital is starting to climb again.
Based on data from the Jakarta Provincial Government, the positivity rate in the capital was 2.6% in January 2022. This figure surged 1,200% compared to December 8, 2021, when the positivity rate was 0.2%.
Over the past week, the average coronavirus positivity rate in Jakarta was recorded at 2%. This is up from the average positivity rate of 0.6% the previous week.
The Jakarta Health Office (Dinkes) recorded an additional 74 Omicron cases until January 9, 2022. Therefore, the total number of Omicron cases in Jakarta is 407, with 350 being international travelers and 57 being non-international travelers.
Previously, the Spokesperson for COVID-19 Vaccination from the Ministry of Health, dr. Siti Nadia Tarmidzi, stated that the majority of Omicron cases originated from international travelers. Therefore, she urged the public to postpone any plans for international travel.
Furthermore, the public is also urged to consistently adhere to health protocols, namely wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands with soap.
