The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 4.47 million cases by Saturday, July 30, 2022. Taiwan ranks first, with a week-over-week increase in Omicron cases of 102.08 percent. GISAID recorded 194 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 5.43 percent compared to the previous day.
Following Taiwan is the Dominican Republic in second place. Compared to the previous week, Omicron cases in this country increased by 46.49 percent. The number of new Omicron cases reported in this country was 334. Daily statistics show a 15.97 percent increase in new Omicron cases compared to the previous day, which recorded 288 cases.
Next is Japan with 153,110 new Omicron cases (a 23.36% increase), Belize with 427 new Omicron cases (a 22.7% increase), and Pakistan with a 13.41 percent increase in Omicron cases, totaling 1,201 cases compared to the previous week.
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, up to yesterday's data, there were 16,622 Omicron cases, a 0.58 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges all parties to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
