This week's COVID-19 statistics in the Americas still depict a concerning situation, with high death tolls remaining in most countries. Nine countries recorded increased deaths this week, while seven others saw a decrease in the number of deaths.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are El Salvador, Paraguay, Colombia, Uruguay, and Argentina. A total of 139 deaths were recorded in these five countries as of Wednesday, September 14, 2022, representing weekly growth exceeding 30 percent.
El Salvador recorded the highest increase in deaths in the Americas, with weekly growth reaching 300 percent. Worldometer recorded four deaths in the country, an increase compared to the previous week's single death.
Paraguay follows with a 275 percent weekly increase in deaths. Yesterday's daily death toll in the country was recorded at 15. Colombia recorded 62 deaths (up 63.16%), Uruguay saw a 50% increase in deaths, and Argentina recorded 52 deaths (up 30%).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the Americas over the past seven days occurred in the United States, with 1,722 deaths. This represents a 13.07% increase compared to the previous week. Following this, Brazil recorded 448 deaths (down 38.8%), Peru recorded 223 deaths (up 21.86%), Chile recorded 173 deaths (down 13.5%), and Canada recorded 151 deaths (up 21.77%).
A total of 3,139 deaths were recorded in the Americas over the past seven days. This accounts for 31.74 percent of global deaths caused by the COVID-19 virus, totaling 9,891 deaths. The number of deaths in the Americas decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 3,265 deaths.
