Based on data from Monday, June 28, 2021, at 09:48 WIB, Indonesia had detected 2,115,304 Covid-19 cases. 207,685 cases, or 9.8%, were active cases requiring hospitalization or self-isolation. According to this data, Worldometers ranked Indonesia ninth globally in the highest number of active Covid-19 cases, up from twelfth place the previous week.
Jakarta became the province with the highest increase in new Covid-19 cases, adding 9,394 new cases. West Java and Central Java followed with 3,988 and 2,288 cases, respectively.
The continuous surge in Covid-19 cases prompted the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI), along with five other medical professions, to urge the government to implement a strict large-scale social restriction (PSBB) in Java. The PSBB is expected to last at least two weeks. The occupancy rate of isolation rooms in several regencies and cities has exceeded 90%.
Meanwhile, the United States still holds the first position with the highest number of active Covid-19 cases globally. The disease has reached 34.5 million cases, with 4,947,918 cases, or 14.3%, being active cases. This proportion decreased from the previous week, which was 14.8%.
The government continues to urge the public to participate in suppressing the spread of the coronavirus. The public needs to maintain social distancing, wear masks, and wash their hands with soap and running water. Reducing mobility and avoiding crowds should also be prioritized.
