The Henley & Partners Henley Passport Index report shows that Japanese passport holders can visit 193 countries visa-free in Q3 2022. This makes the Japanese passport the strongest in the world.
Singapore and South Korea are ranked second, with passport holders enjoying visa-free access to 192 countries each.
Germany and Spain are in third place, with visa-free access to 190 countries. Finland, Italy, and Luxembourg follow in fourth place, each with visa-free access to 189 countries.
European countries continue to dominate the rankings. Austria, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Sweden are in fifth place, with their passports granting visa-free access to 188 countries.
Indonesia is ranked 76th, with visa-free access to 72 countries. Kenya, Tanzania, and Zambia share the same ranking.
Visa-free access means passport holders do not need to apply for and pay for a visa before departure. Visas can be obtained on arrival or by using an electronic travel authorization (ETA).
The Henley Passport Index ranks countries' passport strength based on the number of destinations accessible without a visa. The ranking is based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), supplemented by research from Henley & Partners' Research Department.
