According to the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI), public complaints regarding television (TV) program content during Ramadan 2022 decreased compared to previous years.
KPI recorded 26 complaints regarding the quality of Ramadan TV broadcasts in 2020. This number decreased to 20 in 2021 and further dropped to only 6 complaints in 2022.
"Complaints received by KPI during Ramadan this year, related to decency and morality, inappropriate behavior, and body-shaming jokes, were significantly fewer than in previous Ramadans," explained KPI Central Commissioner Mimah Susanti, as reported on its official website on Monday (18/4/2022).
"The frequency (of complaints) wasn't high, but it's something we note," Mimah continued.
KPI Central Commissioner Mimah Susanti believes this low number of complaints indicates an improvement in the quality of Ramadan broadcasts.

During Ramadan 2022, KPI collaborated with the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) to establish policies for Ramadan broadcasts, including criteria for preachers appearing on television.
"First, they (preachers) must have a good understanding, not be radical, not be anti-NKRI (Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia), and not be anti-Pancasila," explained KPI Chairman Agung Suprio on the commission's official website.
"Second, (preachers) must have a comprehensive understanding of Islam or *kaffah*. They shouldn't be incompetent when appearing on television. These two things are new, or different from previous policies," Agung added.
