Anticipating the impact of the continuously rising Omicron variant, 132 regencies/cities aggressively conducted COVID-19 testing above the national average. Data as of Friday, November 18, 2022, shows a national average of 0.48 tests per 1,000 people per week.
The top five, starting from the highest, are Badung, South Jakarta, Central Jakarta, West Jakarta, and East Jakarta, with respective figures of 8.66, 6.28, 6.25, 4.56, and 4.27 tests per 1,000 people per week.
Badung ranks first. With a population of 727,950, the number of people tested there is recorded at 8.66 per 1,000 people per week. The latest positive rate is 7.52 percent. The positive rate in this region has decreased compared to the previous week's ratio.
Next is South Jakarta. In an effort to counter the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of people tested was 6.28 per 1,000 people per week. The positive rate in this region is recorded at 27.21 percent, an increase compared to the previous week's ratio.
Then, Central Jakarta, with a population of 913,720, recorded 6.25 COVID-19 tests per 1,000 people per week; West Jakarta recorded 4.56 tests per 1,000 people per week; and East Jakarta recorded 4.27 tests per 1,000 people per week.
Anticipating the impact of Omicron in various regions, based on a recapitulation of national COVID data, there are 189 regencies/cities in Indonesia actively reporting a higher daily number of people tested than before. Meanwhile, 108 other regencies/cities recorded a lower number of people tested compared to the previous week.
Areas outside Java with the highest number of people tested include Badung, Balikpapan, and Klungkung, with 8.66, 4.11, and 2.28 tests per 1,000 people per week respectively.
Although COVID-19 transmission has decreased in some areas, the government urges everyone to continue reducing COVID-19 transmission by always wearing masks, maintaining distance, and frequently washing hands with soap and running water. Avoiding crowds and reducing mobility also contribute to suppressing the spread of the coronavirus.
