According to a report by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), in February 2024, the number of open unemployed in Indonesia reached approximately 7.2 million people.
This represents 4.82% of the total national workforce, which numbered 149.38 million people.
Indonesia's unemployment rate varies when detailed at the provincial level.
In February 2024, the highest unemployment rate was in Banten, at 7.02%.
This means that in that month, about 7 out of 100 people in the Banten workforce were unemployed for various reasons.
Other provinces with relatively high unemployment rates include Riau Islands (6.94%), West Java (6.91%), DKI Jakarta (6.03%), and Southwest Papua (6.02%).
Following these are North Sulawesi (5.98%), Maluku (5.96%), Papua (5.81%), West Sumatra (5.79%), and East Kalimantan (5.75%).
The figures recorded here represent the open unemployment rate (TPT), which is the ratio of the number of unemployed to the number of people in the workforce in each region.
According to BPS, people included in the open unemployment group are:
1. Workers who do not have a job and are looking for a job;
2. Those without a job and are preparing a business;
3. Those without a job and not looking for a job because they feel it is impossible to find a job; and
4. Those who already have a job but have not yet started working.
