The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) report shows that foreign tourist visits in August 2017 only increased by 1.79 percent to 1.4 million visits compared to the previous month. However, compared to the same month of the previous year, foreign tourist visits to Indonesia increased by 36.11 percent. As a result, cumulatively from January to August 2017, there was a 26.8 percent growth, reaching 9.25 million visits compared to the same period of the previous year.
By type of visit, regular foreign tourists entering through the 19 main gateways increased by 3.84 percent to 1.18 million visits. Meanwhile, special foreign tourists, such as senior citizens, religious personnel, those on training courses, and researchers, experienced a 29.4 percent decrease to 25,503 visits. Similarly, foreign tourist arrivals through the 19 main gateways also decreased by 3.94 percent to 200,754 visits.
The increase in the number of foreign tourists caused the Hotel Room Occupancy Rate (TPK) in August 2017 to increase to 58 percent, compared to 57.52 percent in the previous month, and also higher than the same month in 2016, which was 55.21 percent. The average length of stay for foreign tourists in August also increased to 1.97 days from 1.89 days in the previous month.
