This week's COVID-19 statistics in Asia show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, two countries recorded an increase in deaths, while six others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Hong Kong, India, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and South Korea. The total number of deaths in these five countries as of Monday, April 10, 2023, was 141, with a weekly growth rate above -7.41 percent.
Hong Kong ranks first, with a weekly increase in deaths growing by 166.67 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded eight deaths, a 33.33 percent increase compared to the previous day.
India follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in this country grew by 65.91 percent. The number of deaths reported in this country was 73. Daily statistics show a 13.1% decrease in deaths compared to the previous day, which was 84.
Next is Lebanon with six deaths (unchanged from the previous period), Saudi Arabia with four deaths (unchanged from the previous period), and South Korea with a 7.41% decrease in deaths.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the past seven days in Asia occurred in Japan with 143 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 30.58% compared to the previous week. Following Japan, the highest number of deaths was recorded in India with 73 deaths (up 65.91%), South Korea with 50 deaths (down 7.41%), the Philippines with 30 deaths (down 55.88%), and Indonesia with 25 deaths (down 24.24%).
The total number of deaths in Asia over the past seven days was 357. This accounts for 15.68 percent of global deaths caused by the COVID-19 virus, totaling 2,277. The number of deaths in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation, which was 441.
