This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia still depict a concerning situation compared to the previous week, due to the continued increase in the number of deaths. This week, 10 countries recorded an increase in deaths, while nine others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are the Maldives, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and the Philippines. The total deaths in these five countries as of Thursday, June 30, 2022, amounted to 87, with a weekly growth exceeding 139.13 percent.
The Maldives ranks first, with a 400 percent increase in weekly deaths. Worldometer recorded five deaths in this country, an increase from the one death reported the previous week.
Bangladesh follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in this country increased by 300 percent. The number of deaths reported was 12, compared to three the previous week.
Rounding out the top five, deaths in Afghanistan increased by 250%, deaths in Pakistan increased by 166.67%, and deaths in the Philippines increased by 139.13%.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Taiwan, with 968 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 12.4% compared to the previous week. Following Taiwan, India recorded 174 deaths (up 26.09%), Thailand recorded 114 deaths (down 17.99%), Japan recorded 94 deaths (down 22.95%), and South Korea recorded 67 deaths (down 10.67%).
Total deaths in Asia over the past seven days reached 1,656. This accounts for 18.12 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 9,140. The number of deaths in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation, which totaled 1,756.
