This week's Covid-19 statistics in the Americas show a decline in deaths in most countries, a reversal from the previous trend of continuous increases. Five countries reported an increase in deaths this week, while ten others reported fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage increase, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths were Paraguay, Argentina, Peru, Guatemala, and Canada. The total number of deaths in these five countries for the week ending September 11, 2022, was 683, representing a weekly growth of over 6.07 percent.
Paraguay had the highest weekly increase in deaths, with a 200 percent growth. Worldometer recorded 30 deaths in the country, up from 10 the previous week.
Argentina followed with a 77.78 percent weekly increase in deaths. Yesterday's daily death toll in the country was 16. Peru recorded 255 deaths (up 35.64%), Guatemala saw an 18.81% increase in deaths, and Canada a 6.07% increase.
Looking at the total number of reported deaths, the United States had the highest number of deaths in the Americas over the past seven days, with 1,736 deaths. This represents a 21.94% decrease compared to the previous week. Brazil followed with 532 deaths (down 39.95%), Canada with 262 deaths (up 6.07%), Peru with 255 deaths (up 35.64%), and Chile with 178 deaths (down 5.82%).
The total number of deaths in the Americas over the past seven days was 3,405. This accounts for 29.7 percent of global Covid-19 deaths, totaling 11,464. The number of deaths in the Americas decreased compared to the previous seven-day period, which saw 4,265 deaths.
