The Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov DKI Jakarta) reported that 27 monkeypox cases have been detected in Indonesia as of Tuesday, October 31, 2023.
"Based on domicile, 22 of these cases are in DKI Jakarta," said Ngabila Salama, Head of the Epidemiology and Immunization Surveillance Section of the DKI Jakarta Health Office, as reported by Kompas.com on Tuesday, October 31, 2023.
This number represents a five-case increase from the 17 cases announced on Friday, October 27, 2023. Of the 22 cases in Jakarta, one patient has recovered, while the others remain in isolation.
In addition to the Jakarta cases, Ngabila mentioned that the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) also reported five positive cases in Banten and West Java.
"Four people in Banten and one in Bandung, West Java," Ngabila explained.
Responding to the increase in monkeypox cases in the capital, the Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta, Heru Budi Hartono, instructed the Health Office to form a special team to trace the transmission of monkeypox cases.
This step is taken to ensure that monkeypox patients can be quickly identified and receive medical treatment.
Furthermore, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is also coordinating with the Ministry of Health to provide monkeypox vaccinations to positive patients and at-risk groups.
Ngabila stated that there are currently around 1,000 vials of monkeypox vaccine available, enough to vaccinate 500 priority individuals.
