According to data from the Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker), approximately 17 million Indonesians benefited from the Kartu Prakerja program between April 2020 and November 2022.
During that period, approximately 1.7 million Kartu Prakerja recipients were in East Java Province, the second highest nationally.
Further breakdown shows that within East Java, Surabaya, Jember, and Malang had the most beneficiaries, while Probolinggo, Mojokerto, and Pasuruan had the fewest, as shown in the graph.
The beneficiaries listed here are those who passed the Kartu Prakerja program's tests and selection process and received incentive funds for job training assistance.
Kartu Prakerja recipients can be job seekers, furloughed or laid-off workers, workers needing skill enhancement, non-wage earners, or micro/small business owners.
In February 2023, the government reopened Kartu Prakerja registration, with a budget allocated for 595,000 people.
However, the initial registration this year was only opened for 10,000 people due to limited training institutions.
"This participant quota will be gradually increased by the Kartu Prakerja Program Management Agency (MPPKP) according to the number of training institutions joining the Kartu Prakerja program ecosystem," said Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto in a press release on Friday, February 17, 2023.
"Therefore, the government invites qualified training institutions throughout Indonesia to participate in the training provider selection, especially institutions from Central and Eastern Indonesia, such as Pontianak, Makassar, Kupang, and Jayapura," he continued.
Potential Kartu Prakerja participants can register independently through the website www.prakerja.go.id without representation.
After registering, prospective participants must undergo a selection process consisting of a Basic Competency Test (TKD)/Learning Ability Test (SKB) on the website.
The TKD/SKB test is conducted online and lasts approximately 40 minutes, comprising verbal and quantitative reasoning tests.
After passing the test, for 2023, Kartu Prakerja participants will receive a total incentive of Rp4.2 million per person.
This incentive consists of Rp3.5 million in training costs, Rp600,000 in post-training incentives, and Rp100,000 in survey incentives for completing two surveys.
"Once you have successfully obtained Kartu Prakerja, immediately utilize the training assistance obtained to the best of your ability to participate in training that suits your needs and interests," said Airlangga.
