The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that 52.67% of households in Bengkulu had access to inadequate sanitation in 2020. This figure decreased by 4.07% compared to 2019, which was 54.91%.
The percentage of households with access to adequate sanitation services is the ratio of the number of households with access to adequate sanitation services to the total number of households, expressed as a percentage (%). Adequate sanitation facilities are those that meet health requirements; namely, facilities used by the household alone or together with certain other households, equipped with a swan-neck toilet, and a final disposal of feces in the form of a septic tank or Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP).
In detail, in 2020, Bengkulu households with access to inadequate sanitation were higher in rural areas than in urban areas. 69.24% of households in rural areas had access to inadequate sanitation, a decrease of 2.25% compared to the previous year, which reached 70.84%.
Meanwhile, households with access to inadequate sanitation in urban areas amounted to 19.10%. This figure also decreased by 15.1% compared to the previous year, which was 22.51%.
Based on the region, Kepahiang Regency had the highest percentage of households with access to inadequate sanitation, reaching 82.26%. The same was true for Lebong Regency, where 77.10% of households had access to inadequate sanitation.
The regions with the lowest percentage of households with access to inadequate sanitation were Bengkulu City with 4.29% and Kaur Regency with 46.01%.
