The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 4.89 million cases by Tuesday, August 30, 2022. According to GISAID data, the United States has recorded the highest number of Omicron cases, at 1.6 million. This represents 32.73 percent of the total global Omicron cases.
The United Kingdom follows, with a weekly growth rate of 0.47 percent in Omicron cases. A total of 1.29 million Omicron cases have been reported in the country. Daily statistics show a 0.1 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day, also totaling 1.29 million.
Next, Germany saw a 1.79 percent increase in Omicron cases, reaching 420,370 compared to the previous week. Denmark experienced a 1.12 percent increase, reaching 280,230 cases, while Japan reported 186,520 cases (a 6.64 percent increase).
In Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 20,365 as of yesterday, a 0.82 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since its initial detection, the number of Omicron cases in Indonesia has steadily risen.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is advised to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
