COVID-19 statistics in Europe this week still depict a concerning situation compared to the previous week, due to the continued increase in the number of deaths. This week, 20 countries recorded an increase in deaths, while 13 other countries recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are the Netherlands, Moldova, Sweden, Latvia, and Estonia. The total deaths in these five countries for the week ending December 25, 2022, amounted to 96, with a weekly growth exceeding 53.33 percent.
The Netherlands ranks first, with a weekly increase in deaths growing by 283.33 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded 23 deaths, an 8 percent increase compared to the previous day.
Following the Netherlands is Moldova, ranking second. Compared to the previous week, deaths in this country grew by 250 percent. Yesterday's daily death toll in this country was recorded at seven. Sweden recorded 21 deaths (up 75%), Latvia recorded 22 deaths (up 69.23%), and deaths in Estonia increased by 53.33%.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in Europe over the past seven days occurred in Germany, with 884 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 3.7% compared to the previous week. Following Germany, France recorded 748 deaths (up 9.04%), Italy recorded 566 deaths (up 9.06%), the United Kingdom recorded 475 deaths (up 21.17%), and Russia recorded 382 deaths (down 1.8%).
Total deaths in Europe over the past seven days were recorded at 3,978. This accounts for 34.93 percent of global deaths caused by the COVID-19 virus, totaling 11,387. The number of deaths in Europe increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 3,761 deaths.
