Jakarta Contributes One-Third of Indonesia's Active Covid-19 Cases

DKI Jakarta had 100,229 active Covid-19 cases as of Wednesday, July 7, 2021. This is the highest number in Indonesia, equivalent to 29.2% or almost one-third of the national active cases, which totaled 343,101.

The high number of active Covid-19 cases in DKI Jakarta is due to a surge in additional cases in recent weeks. Yesterday, the number of new cases in the capital city was recorded at 9,366, the highest compared to other provinces.

The provinces with the next highest number of active cases are West Java (79,082 cases) and Central Java (46,039 cases). Then, Yogyakarta and East Java recorded 15,259 and 13,842 cases respectively.

Active cases in several other provinces are below 10,000 cases. For example, Papua with 9,376 cases, Banten 8,954 cases, and East Kalimantan 6,734 cases. Central Kalimantan and Riau Islands have 5,887 and 5,082 active cases respectively.

The public must be increasingly vigilant against the spread of the coronavirus amid the current surge in cases. Wearing masks, maintaining distance and avoiding crowds, and washing hands with soap (3M) can be effective steps to prevent transmission.
