Foreign tourist visits (wisman) to Indonesia in May 2021 reached 155,600. This figure decreased by 3.85% compared to May 2020, which reached 161,800 visits. However, compared to April 2020, wisman visits increased by 24.48% from 125,000 visits.
Meanwhile, the total number of wisman to Indonesia from January to May 2021 was 664,500 visits. This number decreased drastically by 77.62% from the same period the previous year, which reached 2.97 million visits.
Indonesia saw the highest number of wisman visits in June 2020. Most wisman originated from Timor Leste, with 80,140 visits. This was followed by Malaysia with 49,070 visits, China with 5,200 visits, Singapore with 2,510 visits, and the United States with 2,260 visits.
Furthermore, Timor Leste was also the country with the most visits to Indonesia from January to May 2021, totaling 333,760 visits or 50.2% of total Indonesian wisman. The next countries were Malaysia with 211,430 visits, China with 27,990 visits, Papua New Guinea with 12,660 visits, and Singapore with 12,020 visits.
The Covid-19 pandemic has severely impacted tourism to this day. Therefore, this sector has been affected by the decreasing number of wisman.
