Indonesia's 10 Least Air-Polluted Areas: Manado Ranks First on Sunday Morning

Manado had the cleanest air quality in Indonesia this morning. According to the air quality index from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), Manado scored 25 on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at 6:00 AM WIB.

At that time, Manado's air quality was categorized as "good," meaning the level of pollutants in the air was very minimal. Mamuju was second with an air quality index of 26, followed by Palu in third place with an index of 36.

Below is a complete list of the 10 cities with the cleanest air quality in Indonesia according to the KLHK on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at 6:00 AM WIB.

1. Manado (North Sulawesi): 25
2. Mamuju (West Sulawesi): 26
3. Palu (Central Sulawesi): 36
4. Cirebon (West Java): 37
5. Gresik (East Java): 40
6. Banda Aceh (Aceh): 42
7. Jayapura (Papua): 44
8. Banjar Baru (South Kalimantan): 50
9. Palembang (South Sumatra): 51
10. Cilacap (Central Java): 52

While the air quality in these cities was among the cleanest nationally, not all cities had good air quality.

Based on the Minister of Environment and Forestry Regulation No. 14 of 2020 concerning the Air Pollutant Standard Index, the KLHK applies the following air quality index classification:

* 0-50: Good
* 51-100: Moderate
* 101-200: Unhealthy
* 201-300: Very Unhealthy
* 300+: Hazardous

Therefore, on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at 6:00 AM WIB, cities with good air quality were Manado, Mamuju, Palu, Cirebon, Gresik, Banda Aceh, Jayapura, and Banjar Baru. The other two cities, Palembang and Cilacap, had moderate air quality.
