The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 4.51 million cases by Saturday, July 16, 2022. Bolivia ranks first, with a weekly increase in Omicron cases growing by 441.67 percent. GISAID recorded 65 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 441.67 percent compared to the previous day.
Following Bolivia, the Turks and Caicos Islands are in second place. Compared to the previous week, Omicron cases in this country increased by 112.5 percent. Daily figures show a 6.25 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day, which recorded 16 cases.
Furthermore, the increase in Omicron cases in the United Arab Emirates rose by 100 percent to two cases compared to the previous week; China (PRC) saw a 272-case increase in Omicron cases (up 68.94 percent); and Saint Lucia saw a 45-case increase (up 55.17 percent).
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 15,292, a 1.18 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges all parties to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
