The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 4.59 million cases by Tuesday, April 11, 2023. Egypt ranks first, with a 49.87 percent weekly increase in Omicron cases. GISAID recorded 1,704 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 2.53 percent compared to the previous day.
Mali follows with a 29.73 percent weekly growth in Omicron cases. Daily Omicron cases in the country increased by 1.41 percent compared to the previous day, totaling 142 cases.
Furthermore, Omicron cases in Pakistan increased by 1.42 percent to 2,920 cases compared to the previous week, Omicron cases in Malaysia increased by 1.34 percent to 28,042 cases compared to the previous week, and Spain reported 106,200 Omicron cases (up 0.93%).
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, 35,240 Omicron cases were recorded, a 0.01 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant against the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
