GISAID reports that the number of Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant COVID-19 cases in Indonesia reached 38,013 as of Wednesday, June 7, 2023. This represents an increase of eight cases compared to the previous day, and a weekly growth of 0.62 percent.
This number places Indonesia first in Southeast Asia for Omicron cases. Malaysia has the second highest number of Omicron cases in the region, with 29,910 cases.
Thailand follows, with a weekly growth of 0.5 percent in Omicron cases. Yesterday's daily figure showed 26,992 Omicron cases. Singapore reported 24,890 Omicron cases compared to the previous week; the Philippines saw a 0.19 percent increase to 13,902 cases compared to the previous week; and Vietnam experienced a 0.02 percent decrease to 5,966 cases compared to the previous week.
GISAID's report also indicates that a total of 8.19 million Omicron COVID-19 cases have been detected worldwide, an increase from the 8.17 million reported the previous week.
