This week's COVID-19 statistics in Asia show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, four countries recorded an increase in deaths, while eight others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are India, Iran (Islamic Republic of), Indonesia, the Philippines, and Thailand. The total deaths in these five countries as of Friday, February 10, 2023, amounted to 174, with weekly growth above 0 percent.
India recorded the highest increase in COVID-19 deaths in Asia, with weekly growth reaching 250 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded seven deaths, a 16.67 percent increase compared to the previous day.
Iran (Islamic Republic of) followed in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in this country grew by 187.5 percent. Daily death figures in this country increased by 15% compared to the previous day, which recorded 20 deaths.
Furthermore, deaths in Indonesia increased by 43.48%, the Philippines recorded 94 deaths (up 25.33%), and Thailand recorded 17 deaths (unchanged from the previous period).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Japan with 1,389 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 33.51% compared to the previous week. Following Japan, South Korea recorded 158 deaths (down 30.09%), the Philippines recorded 94 deaths (up 25.33%), Hong Kong recorded 37 deaths (down 66.96%), and Indonesia recorded 33 deaths (up 43.48%).
Total COVID-19 deaths in Asia over the past seven days were recorded at 1,811. This accounts for 28.69 percent of global deaths caused by the COVID-19 virus, totaling 6,313. The number of deaths in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 2,631.
