Presidential candidate number one, Anies Baswedan, stated that 171 sub-districts across 8 Indonesian provinces lack community health centers (Puskesmas).
He made this statement during the fifth 2024 Presidential Debate series, themed social welfare, culture, education, information technology, health, employment, human resources, and inclusion, held at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) on Sunday (4/2/2024).
In a question-and-answer session, Prabowo Subianto asked Anies about the candidate's emergency measures to address the shortage of doctors in Indonesia. Anies responded that Indonesia needs to bolster not only human resources but also infrastructure development.
According to Anies, this falls under the curative aspect. He categorized the curative aspect into two: *soft infrastructure*, or medical personnel, and *hard infrastructure*, such as the construction of health facilities.
"For example, 15 out of 38 provinces lack a Class A hospital; these need to be built. Furthermore, 171 sub-districts in 8 provinces still lack Puskesmas. So we must consider both, *soft infrastructure* and *hard infrastructure*," said Anies.
Anies' statement is partially consistent with data from the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes).
According to Kemenkes data, as of 2021, 171 sub-districts across 7 Indonesian provinces lacked Puskesmas facilities.
The highest number of sub-districts without Puskesmas in 2021 was recorded in Papua, with 116 sub-districts. This was followed by West Papua with 44 sub-districts, South Sumatra with 4 sub-districts, North Kalimantan with 3 sub-districts, North Sumatra with 2 sub-districts, and Riau Islands and Central Sulawesi with 1 sub-district each.
