The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 5.08 million cases by Wednesday, October 5, 2022. According to GISAID data, Nicaragua recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with 15 new cases. This represents 0 percent of the total global Omicron cases.
Puerto Rico follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, Omicron cases in the country increased by 10.18 percent, with 8,853 new cases reported. Daily statistics show a 9.22 percent increase in new Omicron cases compared to the previous day, which recorded 8,106 cases.
Next is Algeria with an increase of 221 Omicron cases (up 9.95 percent). Guatemala saw an 8.97 percent increase in Omicron cases, reaching 1,130 cases compared to the previous week, while Singapore saw a 5.58 percent increase, reaching 12,958 cases compared to the previous week.
In Indonesia, as of yesterday's data, there were 23,465 Omicron cases, a 0.71 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
