The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 5.91 million cases by Friday, November 18, 2022. The United States leads with a weekly Omicron case growth of 0.99 percent, totaling 1.92 million cases according to GISAID. Daily cases in the US increased by 0.26 percent compared to the previous day.
The United Kingdom reported a 0.25 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily cases increased by 0.03 percent compared to the previous day.
Germany recorded 476,220 Omicron cases (a 0.64% increase), Denmark reported 320,990 cases (a 0.95% increase), and France saw a 1.05 percent increase to 302,110 cases compared to the previous week.
In Indonesia, a total of 27,309 Omicron cases were recorded by the previous day, representing a 0.83 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since its initial detection, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is advised to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
