Average Spending by Foreign Tourists in Indonesia Reaches Rp 30 Million

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that the average expenditure of foreign tourists (wisman) visiting Indonesia was US$ 2,165.02 per visit in 2020, or Rp 30.52 million (at an exchange rate of Rp 14,100/US$). This figure increased by 88.98% compared to the previous year, which was US$ 1,145.64.

Based on the type of expenditure, the majority of foreign tourist spending in Indonesia in 2020 was on accommodation, reaching 40.35% of the total. This figure increased by 1.80 percentage points compared to the previous year, which was 38.55%.

Furthermore, foreign tourist spending in Indonesia on food and beverages amounted to 27.54% of the total. Spending on shopping and health were 7.89% and 4.94%, respectively.

Next, spending on local transportation was 3.78%. There was also spending on entertainment and education/training, each amounting to 3.10% and 3.08%, respectively.

Meanwhile, foreign tourist spending on domestic flights was 2.8%, other expenses were 2.5%, and souvenirs accounted for 2.18%. The lowest expenditure by foreign tourists in Indonesia was on local tour packages, at 1.84%.
