Four Sulawesi Provinces Became Indonesia's Largest Cocoa Producers in 2020

Several provinces in Sulawesi were the largest national cocoa producers in 2020. Based on data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), Central Sulawesi ranked first, producing 128,200 tons of cocoa.

Southeast Sulawesi came in second with cocoa production of 126,400 tons. South Sulawesi and West Sulawesi produced 109,000 tons and 65,600 tons, respectively.

These four provinces were able to produce large quantities of cocoa due to the extensive land area available for cultivating the commodity. In 2019, the area of cocoa plantations in Central Sulawesi reached 282,700 hectares.

In Southeast Sulawesi, the cocoa plantation area totaled 259,700 hectares. Meanwhile, the cocoa plantation areas in South Sulawesi and West Sulawesi reached 217,000 and 144,000 hectares, respectively.
