The global culinary guide website, Taste Atlas, released its list of the 10 best street food sweets in the world in June 2023.
Several Indonesian sweet treats made the list, including serabi, which scored 4.8 out of 5 points.
This score placed serabi third in Taste Atlas's ranking of the world's best sweet street food.
Serabi is a traditional small Indonesian pancake made from rice flour and a choice of coconut milk or grated coconut. It can be served sweet or savory.
"Serabi is usually served with kinca syrup, strawberries, durian, or coconut, and is commonly sold as a quick and practical street food," wrote Taste Atlas in its report.
This sweet treat can be found throughout the island of Java, but serabi is typically associated with the cities of Bandung and Solo.
In addition to serabi, pisang goreng (fried bananas) also made the list, ranking 10th with a score of 4.5 points.
First place went to crepes, thin pancakes from France, which received a score of 4.8 points.
Taste Atlas explained that crepes began spreading worldwide from the turn of the 20th century, when wheat flour became more readily available. Crepes are now very common in Indonesia.
