Fried Banana Drops in Ranking, No Longer Taste Atlas's 2023 Best "Dessert"

Taste Atlas, a Croatian culinary travel guide website, released its list of the world's best desserts in July 2023.

Previously, Taste Atlas released a similar list in February 2023, ranking fried bananas (pisang goreng) as the world's best dessert with a score of 4.6 out of 5.

However, in the latest Taste Atlas report, Indonesian fried bananas dropped to 47th place, with a slightly lower score of 4.5.

The top spot in the latest ranking is now held by Pave, a layered Brazilian dessert similar to tiramisu, scoring 4.7 points.

This dessert is made from ladyfingers, cream, eggs, sweetened condensed milk, and chocolate. Pave doesn't require baking.

"This is a traditional dessert in Brazil, where every family has its own variation, so there are recipes for strawberry, pineapple, white chocolate, coconut, and bean pudding," wrote Taste Atlas in its report.

Second place, also from Brazil, is occupied by Bombocado, with a score of 4.7. It's followed by Queso Helado from Peru, also scoring 4.7.

The list is dominated by desserts from European countries including Italy, France, Turkey, Poland, and Austria, with scores as shown in the graph.

9. Sernis (Poland): 4.6 points
10. Kaiserschmarrn (Austria): 4.6 points

Although not in the top 10, several Indonesian desserts are included in the top 100: fried bananas (46th), cendol (51st), and dadar gulung (100th).
