According to a Milieu Insight survey, respondents from Chinese communities across Southeast Asia had already begun planning their Lunar New Year spending as early as October 2023, including purchases of food products.

The results show that the majority, or 64%, of respondents intend to spend money on fresh fruits and vegetables.

Furthermore, 56% of respondents plan to purchase snacks and sweets, such as biscuits, candies, and chocolates.

Another 51% of respondents intend to buy non-alcoholic beverages for this year's Lunar New Year celebrations, such as milk, tea, and soda.

Beyond food products, the survey revealed other expenditures among Chinese communities in Southeast Asia leading up to Lunar New Year 2024. These include spending on fashion, personal care and beauty products/services, and entertainment/recreational activities.

Overall, Milieu Insight reports that 52% of respondents estimate their total spending for this year's Lunar New Year celebrations will likely be higher than last year. Despite inflation, the report indicates that the intention to spend money in each category remains largely the same as the previous year.

This Milieu survey involved 1,000 respondents from Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaysia who intend to celebrate Lunar New Year 2024. The survey was conducted via Milieu Insight's online proprietary panel in October 2023.
