According to a report by the International Data Corporation (IDC), global tablet shipments reached 28.3 million units in the second quarter of 2023.

This figure represents a 29.9% year-on-year (YoY) drop, attributed to perceived low purchasing power.

Despite this, Apple maintained its dominance in global tablet shipments. During this period, Apple shipped 10.8 million units worldwide.

This secured Apple's position as the world's number one tablet vendor, with a 37% market share.

Samsung followed in second place, shipping 5.8 million units globally and achieving a 20.6% market share.

IDC noted that the South Korean tech company is striving to boost demand in the high-end segment by launching premium products with large screens in the second half of 2023.

Lenovo climbed to third place, with shipments of 2.1 million units and a 7.6% market share. Lenovo recorded the sharpest decline, at 38.8% YoY.

However, the volume in Q2 2023 increased by 12.9% compared to the previous quarter (QoQ). IDC attributes this to Lenovo's improved marketing strategies.

Huawei ranked fourth with 1.7 million global tablet shipments and a 5.9% market share. Xiaomi followed with 1 million units and a 3.6% market share in Q2 2023.

Jitesh Ubrani, Research Manager of IDC's Mobility and Consumer Device Trackers, explained that the global tablet market is now bifurcated, with iPads dominating the high-end market and brands like Xiaomi and Lenovo thriving in the low-end market.
