Not Everyone Gets a THR, These are the Ways Citizens Celebrate Eid al-Fitr 2025

Kompas Research and Development surveyed people's efforts to celebrate Eid al-Fitr 2025. The results show that 22.6% of respondents chose to start seasonal businesses, such as selling takjil (pre-fast-breaking snacks) or cookies, to cover their expenses.

"The uncertain economic conditions have forced some people to think creatively to meet their needs during Eid," said the Kompas Research and Development team in their report on Monday, March 24, 2025.

Next, 7.6% of respondents chose to borrow money from relatives or friends. Then, 5.2% pawned assets or valuables; 3.9% borrowed money from financial institutions; 1.1% sold assets or valuables; and 0.2% took out online loans.

On the other hand, 59.6% of respondents did not make any special efforts to celebrate Eid al-Fitr this year. Generally, they had already prepared sufficient funds to meet their needs during Ramadan and Eid.

"Some of them also received increased purchasing power due to holiday allowances or THR," said the Kompas Research and Development team.

This survey involved 532 respondents from 38 provinces, randomly selected according to the population proportion in each province.

Data collection was conducted from March 4-7, 2025, through telephone interviews. The survey's margin of error is approximately 4.25% with a 95% confidence level, under simple random sampling conditions.
