Food, the Main Household Expenditure of Indonesian Citizens Throughout 2024

The JakPat report, titled *Jakpat Consumers Outlook 2025*, reveals Indonesian consumer spending patterns throughout 2024.

A majority of respondents (52%) allocated their spending to dining out, while 48% went towards online food delivery.

Other significant expenditures included personal care/beauty (44%), transportation services (43%), banking services (33%), home repairs (31%), and vacation services (29%).

Expenditures on food/beverages, education services, vacations, insurance, and non-bank financial services such as online loans accounted for less than 25%, as detailed in the accompanying graph.

Furthermore, the survey recorded several financial goals for 2025. 43% of respondents aimed to increase income through side jobs or businesses.

Another 16% planned to reduce unnecessary spending, 13% to save for asset purchases, and 9% intended to invest in stocks/mutual funds.

The Jakpat survey involved 2,080 respondents, comprising 54% women and 46% men.

52% of respondents resided in the Jabodetabek area, followed by Bandung, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Malang, Medan, and Makassar (7% each).

The respondent demographics included 48% millennials, 35% Gen Z, and 18% Gen X. The majority (42%) belonged to the middle class, 31% were aspiring middle class, 12% were poor, 11% were near-poor, and 4% were upper class.

The survey was conducted online in October 2024 via the Jakpat application.
