Spending by Indonesian Citizens in a Single Minimarket Purchase

According to a Populix survey, 77% of 1,070 respondents in Indonesia more frequently purchase daily necessities at minimarkets.

In this group, respondents spent an average of Rp426,862 per visit.

"This indicates that minimarkets are an essential part of people's shopping routines," said the Populix team in their report, *Understanding Shopper Preference in Grocery Shopping*.

Breaking it down, the majority, or 81%, of respondents spent less than Rp500,000 per minimarket visit.

Then, 17% spent Rp500,000-Rp1 million, followed by 2% who spent Rp1 million-Rp3 million, and 1% who spent Rp3 million-Rp5 million per visit.

Meanwhile, no respondents spent more than Rp5 million on a single minimarket shopping trip.

The Populix survey also revealed that 27% of respondents visited minimarkets once a week, 26% visited every two weeks, and 24% visited two to three times a week.

"People visit minimarkets because of accessibility, product variety, and discounts," said the Populix team.

Populix conducted this online survey from May 23-26, 2024, involving 1,070 respondents spread across Indonesia.

The majority of respondents were from Java (79%), followed by Sumatra (13%), and other islands (8%). Respondents were predominantly aged 17-25 years (38%) and 26-30 years (22%).
