Serang Regency Becomes the Largest Banana Supplier, Production Reaches 416,030 Tons

Villages in Serang Regency, Banten, are known as suppliers of fruits and vegetables. The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) recorded banana production in Serang Regency reaching 416,030 tons in 2020. This figure is the highest compared to other annual fruits and vegetables in Serang Regency.

The sub-district with the largest banana supply in Serang Regency is Ciomas, producing 142,800 tons in 2020. The second largest producer is Mancak Sub-district, with a production of 105,700 tons.

The next largest annual fruit and vegetable production is melinjo (gnidia) at 285,900 tons. This is followed by durian production at 124,100 tons, mango at 81,400 tons, and jengkol (dogfruit) at 63,200 tons.

Serang Regency has a very large agricultural land area, approximately 47,500 hectares, managed by the community. The agricultural and plantation products are used for local consumption and to supply the capital city's fruit and vegetable needs.

Serang Regency also has community plantations producing coconuts, peanuts, coffee, cloves, cocoa, and others. However, in recent years, the plantation area has decreased due to the development of many industrial and residential areas.
