Palm Oil Production and Consumption Decreased in October 2021

Palm oil production and consumption have shown a downward trend since August 2021. The Indonesian Palm Oil Entrepreneurs Association (GAPKI) reported that palm oil production in October 2021 decreased by 3.5% and consumption decreased by 1.76% compared to the previous month.

The decrease in palm oil production in October 2021 was the third time in the second half of 2021. Previous production declines occurred in July, and while there was an increase in August, it subsequently decreased again in September and October.

Total palm oil production reached 4.41 million tons in October 2021, down 3.5% compared to the previous month, which reached 4.57 million tons. Compared to the same period last year, palm oil production in October 2021 decreased by 15.8%. Palm oil production in October 2020 was recorded at 5.24 million tons.

Specifically, crude palm oil (CPO) production amounted to 4.04 million tons in October 2021. Meanwhile, crude palm kernel oil (CPKO) production amounted to 372,000 tons.

Cumulatively from January to October 2021, palm oil production reached 42.56 million tons. This figure is down 0.93% compared to the same period last year, which amounted to 42.96 million tons.

Meanwhile, domestic consumption of palm oil was recorded at 1.45 million tons in October 2021. This figure is down 1.76% compared to September 2021, which amounted to 1.47 million tons.

The largest domestic consumption was for food, at 656,000 tons in October 2021. This figure is down 2.4% from the previous month, which amounted to 672,000 tons.

Biodiesel consumption amounted to 615,000 tons, down 1.12% from the previous month, which amounted to 622,000 tons. Meanwhile, consumption for oleochemicals amounted to 178,000 tons, down 1.65% from September, which amounted to 181,000 tons.
