Indonesia is one of the world's largest coffee producers. According to the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), national coffee production reached 760,200 tons in 2023, down 1.9% year-on-year (yoy).
Most Indonesian coffee is produced in the provinces of Sumatra Island.
In 2023, South Sumatra was the largest coffee-producing province, with a production volume of 198,000 tons or 26.05% of total national production.
The second to fifth positions were also occupied by provinces from Sumatra: Lampung, North Sumatra, Aceh, and Bengkulu.
West Sumatra also ranked tenth among the largest coffee-producing provinces last year.
The lowest coffee production came from Gorontalo, at only 100 tons.
On the other hand, 9 provinces recorded no coffee production in 2023, including Bangka Belitung Islands, Riau Islands, DKI Jakarta, North Maluku, West Papua, Southwest Papua, South Papua, Central Papua, and Highland Papua.
