Indonesia's nickel export volume reached 984.97 million kilograms (kg) from January to October 2023, according to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS). This volume surged 61.19% year-on-year (yoy) compared to 611.06 million kg in the same period of 2022.
The accumulated value for the first ten months of 2023 reached US$5.74 billion, a 23.45% yoy increase from US$4.65 billion in January-October 2022.
China was the largest buyer of Indonesian nickel, purchasing 867.09 million kg from January to October 2023. This represents a 68.96% yoy increase from 513.18 million kg in 2022. The export value to China reached US$4.14 billion in January-October 2023, a 20.56% yoy increase from US$3.43 billion in 2022.
Japan was the second largest buyer, with a volume of 76.31 million kg, a 22.19% yoy increase from 62.45 million kg in October 2022.
Norway imported 31.18 million kg in October 2023, a staggering 524.5% yoy increase from 4.99 million kg the previous year.
The Netherlands also imported a significant amount of Indonesian nickel, 6.88 million kg in 2023, compared to zero imports in 2022.
Neighboring countries Malaysia and Singapore also purchased Indonesian nickel. Brazil was the smallest buyer on the list, with a volume of 2,010 kg, a 16,650% increase from the 12 kg imported the previous year.
