Top 10 Durian-Producing Provinces in Indonesia in 2022

According to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), throughout 2022 Indonesia produced approximately 1.71 million tons of durian fruit.

This fruit, nicknamed the "king of fruits," can grow throughout the Indonesian archipelago, although the largest production comes from Java and Sumatra.

Here are the 10 provinces with the largest durian production volume in 2022:

1. East Java: 419,849 tons
2. West Sumatra: 304,119 tons
3. Central Java: 211,898 tons
4. North Sumatra: 109,944 tons
5. West Java: 80,334 tons
6. Central Sulawesi: 63,387 tons
7. South Sulawesi: 59,747 tons
8. Banten: 59,615 tons
9. Aceh: 56,574 tons
10. South Sumatra: 39,624 tons

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, durian is a fruit rich in fiber and contains various nutrients beneficial to the body, such as vitamin C, vitamin B, potassium, manganese, and phosphorus.

Therefore, durian consumption can help strengthen bones, prevent constipation, prevent anemia, maintain healthy skin, and increase appetite.

However, durian has a very strong aroma, which can cause discomfort for some people.

Durian also contains high levels of unsaturated fat and glucose, which can be converted into alcohol compounds, and therefore should not be consumed excessively.

"For sufferers of hypertension and its accompanying diseases, such as coronary heart disease, stroke, or kidney disorders, excessive consumption of durian can have adverse effects on their condition, so it is advisable to consult a doctor before consuming it," stated the Ministry of Agriculture on its official website.

"The high alcohol and glucose content in durian can increase triglyceride levels in the blood. Therefore, people with diabetes also need to be cautious about consuming durian," it continued.
