Indonesia Became the World's Third Largest Coffee Producer in 2022/2023

Based on data from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), global coffee production reached 170 million 60-kg bags in the 2022/2023 period.

This represents a 2.8% increase year-on-year (YoY) from the previous period (2021/2022), which recorded production of 165.37 million bags.

Indonesia ranked as the world's third-largest coffee producer in 2022/2023, producing 11.85 million bags.

This comprised 1.3 million bags of Arabica coffee and 10.5 million bags of Robusta coffee.

75% of Indonesia's coffee production originates from low-lying areas in South Sumatra and Java.

Brazil was the world's largest coffee producer, with a production of 62.6 million bags in 2022/2023.

This figure represents an increase of 4.5 million bags YoY from the previous period (58.1 million bags).

Vietnam ranked second, producing 29.75 million bags in 2022/2023. Vietnamese production was dominated by Robusta coffee (28.74 million bags), with the remaining 1.01 million bags being Arabica.

Furthermore, Vietnamese Robusta coffee is known for its bitter taste and relatively low acidity.

Colombia and Ethiopia occupied the fourth and fifth positions, with production of 11.3 million bags and 8.27 million bags respectively. The remaining production figures are included in the above graph.
