Muslims commemorate the Feast of Sacrifice, or Eid al-Adha, on the 10th day of Zulhijjah in the Hijri calendar.
This year, the Ministry of Religious Affairs has declared that Eid al-Adha 1445 Hijriah will fall on Monday, June 17, 2024.
"We hope that with the results of this isbat session, all Muslims in Indonesia can celebrate Eid al-Adha together," said Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Saiful Rahmat in a press release on Friday (June 7, 2024).
"But it should be known to all the public that if in the future there are differences in carrying out worship related to Eid al-Adha, we hope that everyone can prioritize harmony and tolerance and not highlight the existing differences," Saiful added.
According to information on the official Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) website, during Eid al-Adha, Muslims are encouraged to perform qurban, namely slaughtering livestock for the purpose of worship.
"Qurban in the vertical dimension is a form of worship to draw closer to Allah to obtain His pleasure," said K.H. Zakky Mubarak, Rais Syuriyah of the NU Central Board on its official website.
"While in the social dimension, qurban aims to gladden the poor on the Day of Sacrifice. Therefore, the qurban meat should be given to those in need, with a sufficient amount allowed to be consumed by the family performing the qurban, while still prioritizing the poor and needy," he continued.
Based on the National Zakat Amil Agency (Baznas) catalog, the price of sacrificial animals currently ranges from Rp 2.6 million to Rp 21 million per head, depending on the type and weight.
