The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported an increase in the national average price of rice in October 2022.
According to BPS data, this upward trend began in September 2022, following the government's increase in subsidized fuel prices for Pertalite and Solar.
The upward trend in rice prices continued into October 2022, reaching an average of Rp11,850/kg.
"In October 2022, rice experienced inflation of 1.13% compared to the previous month," said BPS.
Overall, Indonesia experienced annual inflation of 5.71% (year-on-year/yoy) in October 2022. On a monthly basis, Indonesia's Consumer Price Index (CPI) experienced deflation of 0.11% (month-on-month/mom) in October 2022.
According to BPS, the monthly deflation in October 2022 was influenced by the decrease in prices of several food commodities, such as red chilies, chicken eggs, chicken meat, chili peppers, cooking oil, tomatoes, shallots, and green chilies. However, the prices of rice, tofu, and tempeh increased.
