Indonesia's Beef Production Trend Decreases Over the Past Two Years

Based on data from the Directorate General of Livestock and Animal Health (Ditjen PKH) of the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan), Indonesia's beef production in 2021 reached 437,783.23 tons. This figure is down 3.44% compared to 2020, which recorded 453,418.44 tons.

The trend of beef production in Indonesia showed an increase from 2017 to 2019. In 2017, beef production reached 486,319.65 tons. This figure increased by 2.4% to 497,971.70 tons in 2018.

In 2019, beef production increased again by 1.37%, reaching its highest point at 504,802.29 tons. After that, production decreased for two consecutive years, falling by 10.18% in 2020 and by 3.44% in 2021.

This decrease in beef production is inconsistent with the existing population of beef cattle in Indonesia. In 2021, the beef cattle population reached 18,053,710 heads, up 3.51% from 2020's 17,440,393 heads.

East Java had the highest beef production in 2021, with 93,303.43 tons, equivalent to 21.31% of Indonesia's total beef production.

Besides East Java, West Java was the second largest contributor to beef production with 64,425.18 tons or 14.71%. Central Java followed with 55,835.19 tons or 12.75%.
