Sapi Potong, the Most Produced Livestock Meat in North Kalimantan in 2020

Meat is the best source of protein because it contains amino acids that are useful for repairing damaged human cells. Meat also contains iron, which is beneficial for reproductive health.

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that beef production in North Kalimantan (Kaltara) province was the highest. Production reached 590.8 tons in 2020, a 1.17% increase from the previous year. This figure is the highest compared to other types of livestock.

Pork production was the second largest increase in meat production in this province. It reached 224 tons in 2020, a 10.4% increase from the previous year's 202.9 tons. Goat meat production in Kaltara amounted to 101.2 tons, a 15.5% increase. Meanwhile, buffalo meat production was recorded at 7.3 tons, a 40.7% increase.

The population of beef cattle in Kaltara was 23,700 head in 2020, the pig population was 29,300 head, and the goat and buffalo populations were 13,900 head and 3,700 head, respectively. Meanwhile, the populations of sheep, horses, and dairy cows were 34, 7, and 2 head, respectively.

The North Kalimantan Provincial Government is currently focusing on supporting the development of cattle to become a new breeding center. This will reduce Kaltara's dependence on beef supplies from Malaysia.
