President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) claims his efforts to distribute social assistance (bansos), particularly rice, are aimed at mitigating the impact of rising commodity prices.

He stated that rice price increases are occurring globally, triggered by crop failures due to the climate crisis, leading 22 countries to halt exports to secure their domestic needs.

Jokowi even plans to extend the distribution of 10-kilogram (kg) rice bansos per month to approximately 22 million beneficiaries until the third quarter of this year.

Meanwhile, data from the National Strategic Food Price Information Center (PIHPS) shows that the national average price of rice reached Rp14,950 per kilogram (kg) on Tuesday (30/1/2024).

Of all provinces, Central Kalimantan has the highest average rice price at Rp18,800/kg.

Close behind, South Kalimantan is second with the highest rice price at Rp17,900/kg.

Third is West Sumatra with an average price of Rp16,350/kg.

Provinces with the lowest average rice prices include South Sulawesi (Rp13,050/kg), West Nusa Tenggara (Rp13,650/kg), and North Sumatra (Rp13,700/kg).
